A wide variety of recording formats existed in the past. The floppy disk was produced in various sizes ranging from the 8-inch type mentioned earlier and the smaller 5.25-inch type with the same structure, to the 3.5-inch model, which became easier to use with the addition of a hard case, a chucking mechanism using a metal hub and a shutter mechanism in the part providing access to the magnetic head. But it was not until floppy disks began to be used in disk operating systems that file management mechanisms, as typified by the FAT file system, were introduced. In the 1970s, an 8-inch floppy disk (referred to as a diskette at IBM) was first used as an alternative to the punch card used by the IBM3740 data entry system. It is sometimes also referred to as a flexible disk. You can now remove the USB cord from your computer and return the drive and cord to its box.A floppy disk is a removable, rewritable magnetic recording medium comprising a disk-shaped polymer sheet coated with magnetic material on the front and back, encased in a jacket.
Right click on the device in the system tray and eject it.Once you have transferred your files, you can eject the disk by pressing the button on the front (see video above).If comfortable, you may consider using a tool like TeraCopy or RSync, in order to ensure nothing changes in the transfer process. If so, you can copy and paste them onto your computer (e.g.Click on what has popped up and see if you can view your files.You may also have to click on "This PC" in your file explorer on Windows in order to see it. Once the disk is inserted, the drive may pop up as a removable drive (the A: drive if in Windows file explorer).Insert the disk with the label side up and the shutter in the front until you hear a click.Flip the small tab on the bottom of the disk so that it is open, this means it is write-protected (so you can't make any unintentional changes).Remove the drive from its box and plug it into your computer's USB drive.However, some earlier disks from the 1980s and disks formatted on a non-Windows machine may not function correctly.
This will work for the majority of disks created from the 1990s - present. Your 3.5" floppy disk like the one pictured above can be accessed through the USB external drive.
